Tsaritse moia – My most gracious Queen – Царице моя преблагая

Thursday, 03. Sept. 2013 I got a phone call asking to find a GERMAN translation for a RUSSIAN orthodox prayer for a lady from SPAIN. Somehow I succeded – but only in using  an ENGLISH translation first. It remained unclear, which is the correct “place in life” of the text (Akathist? Moleben? other?) and from which origin the wide-spread music for this text may have come.

And here we go:

My most gracious Queen, my hope, Mother of God, shelter of orphans, and intercessor of travellers, strangers and pilgrims, joy of those in sorrow, protectress of the wronged, see my distress, see my affliction! Help me, for I am helpless. Feed me, for I am a stranger and pilgrim. Thou knowest my offence; forgive and resolve it as thou wilt. For I know no other help but thee, no other intercessor, no gracious consoler but thee, O Mother of God, to guard and protect me throughout the ages. Amen.

Amen.

short commentary:

It is a strange formula to say about the Mother of God, that “SHE resolves”, that “SHE resolves especially SINS” – because such DIVINE ACTION normally would be seen as restricted to DIVINE ACTORS, such for instance Her DIVINE SON.

(It may perhaps be, that the English translation from the Russian original was not good enough, because we do not expect open heresy in any genuin and learned orthodox surrounding!)

To AVOID a RATHER problematical direction of interpretation, that somehow the Mother of God would finally figure as  a GODDESS herself, we perhaps would add as some sort of “help for interpretation”:

BECAUSE it was the DIVINE wish, to SUBDUE to CONDITIONS OF HUMAN EXISTENCE, and especially of COMING INTO FLESH and even DYING HUMAN DEATH, we SUCH may say, that in a CERTAIN SENSE with some reason we may tend to “hyperdoule”, to “over-praising” HIS MOTHER, because SHE with HER ANSWER  “IT BE” made it possible at all, because with the “YES” of St. Mary to the proposal of the angel THIS SO SPECIAL CHAPTER WITHIN THE DIVINE PLAN OF SALVATION started at all.

However there is a FINE LINE, that St. Mary cannot become  “CON-SALVATRIX” in any real sense as COACTRESS of salvation – (if this word possible from linguistics at all – because IF she were a “CON-Salvatrix”, would this imply, that the part of HER DIVINE SON may have been “restricted” or “diminished” SOMEHOW …???)

St. Mary IS CERTAINLY “a condition, God himself wished, to subdue to”, INSOFAR this salvation was BOUND BY DIVINE WILL to HUMAN CONDITIONS (“conditions humaines”), BUT – of course – St. Mary was not on the cross and not she died, the death of our salvation, but her son. St. Marys position such is NOT “behind” the cross, nor “before the cross”, not even simply “beneath the cross”, but UNDER THE CROSS. (This  changing of my phrasing the words, especially became necessary, because in WESTERN-Europe we INDED have some folks, DEMANDING the DOGMATIC title “Co-Salvatrix” to be introduced by the pope, which never ever was in the teaching of the church, even not the western church. In this – actual – WESTERN CONTEXT I recently wrote “Die Muttergottes im Nachthemd von Amsterdam und die Irrlehre von der Miterlöserin URL https://brunobuike.wordpress.com/2016/03/05/die-muttergottes-im-nachthemd-von-amsterdam-und-die-irrlehre-von-der-miterloserin/ – which however ist not matching exactly with the FEELING of ORTHODOX veneration as “hyperdoule”, but which is my reaction against a DOGMATIC DANGER!

This would NOT MEAN to MINIMIZE the PRIVILEGES  given to the Mother of God by her SON HIMSELF, who after all blessed Her with HER BODY TAKEN AWAY FROM EARTH such NOT SEEING HUMAN DECAY!

To summarize in short: We need TRAINED DISTINGUISHING in heavy difficult PHILOSOPHICAL and METAPHYSICAL GROUNDS, NOT to fall victim to HERESY and FAULT – which “methodical distinction” we normally would NOT EXPECT as a NATURAL BEHAVIOR, especially not in over-exaggerated crowds of believers whatever.

We such may conclude, that I am very glad, that it it in not any sense is part of my professional DUTIES, to EXPLAIN FULLY the actual NOnSENSE of 2Co-Salvatrix”-debate, which however on the contrary does not and cannot mean, that anybody can “sell” to me “anything” … OH, NO, NO, NO!
